On the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the Jaguar XK-series, one of the largest gatherings of this great car took place in the picturesque city of Echternach, Luxembourg, of 7. on 9. June. One feels reminded of the introduction of the XK120 at the London Motorshow in 1948.
The crush of cars was enormous, in some places the queue of Jaguars went all the way out to the main street. The team of organizers, amongst them Philip Porter, had loads to do in order to direct the drivers and avoid traffic chaos on the busy main street through Echternach. More than 200 Cats eventually found their way into the huge courtyard of the Abbey of Echternach. The cars came from Germany, Switzerland, France, Great Britain, and Ireland amongst other countries and were accompanied by the big Cats of the Jaguar E-Type, whose meeting was held at the same time. There were even two Jaguar C-Types on the scene, and they were warmly greeted with the words „C-Types not allowed here.“ Obviously a little bit of British humor should not be missing on an event like this. Unfortunately the weather was a little unsteady and we had plenty of rain mixed with grey skies during the third day of the festivities, however, this did nothing to spoil the mood of those attending the XK 65 weekend. The participants talked shop, joked and admired each other's cars. It was simply a good day.
